Ruptured melting pot

This Citizenship Amendment Act is a signal of rejection of the idea of India as a melting pot. This pot is now ruptured. Disaster is lurking. We must now act together to hold up the pot. India became sovereign in 1950. Its first Citizenship Act was passed in 1955. Several amendments were incorporated in later years. But this year's amendment has almost unsettled the whole of India.

Myanmar in tatters

The seven-year jail sentence awarded to two Reuters journalists ~ Wa Lone (32) and Kyaw Soe Oo (28) ~ for covering the state-sponsored massacre of Rohingyas, most particularly the killing of ten Rohingyas by soldiers and Buddhist villagers at Inn Din in the state of Rakhine, signifies a travesty of justice and an unabashedly severe blow to the certitudes of press freedom.
