Exactly a month after the first phase of the lockdown was declared by the Prime Minister, Kolkata now poses a forbidding challenge to the administration. Chief among the reasons is the congestion and its attendant problems ~ the city is dotted with suffocatingly overcrowded slums which showcase a life of squalor amidst the glitzy highrises.
As per the plan, while the stretch between M G Road and Beliaghata Road flanks will be closed to traffic, M G Road and Beliaghata Road will be completely functional. The closure will be from 6 p.m. on 15 August to 6 p.m. on 18 August.
Several residents of the area rushed to the spot to help with the rescue operation and managed to evacuate all the occupants.
