With US troop reinforcements underway and Iranian officials vowing resistance, Trump told Republican donors Iran's leadership privately wants a deal, but is too frightened to seek one openly.
The negotiations are expected to set a framework for the presence of US troops, which deployed to Iraq in 2014 to lead a coalition fighting back the Islamic State group.
President Trump said, “We are doing very well with Iran and this is not the time to show weakness. Americans overwhelmingly support our attack on terrorist Soleimani”.
Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani had called for a mass turnout to mark the anniversary of the revolution and condemn the "hostile" moves of the US against Iran.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function, Iranian Ambassador to India Ali Chegeni said, "India is a part of the region...it should be a part of de-escalation."
Trump, however, called for harsher sanctions against Iran but made no mention of possible retaliation to Tuesday's missile attacks.
The development may lead to an increase in flying time by approximately 20 minutes for flights from Delhi and 30-40 minutes for flights from Mumbai.
Khamenei added that the 'corrupt presence of the US in the region should come to an end,' saying it has caused 'war, division, and destruction'.
Meanwhile, the Government has directed all Indian carriers to avoid airspace of Iran, Iraq and the Gulf following tension in the region.
