The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a significant step to further streamline the electoral process by introducing new guidelines for counting postal ballots. This move aims to reduce delays and enhance clarity in the counting process.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala, Rathan U. Kelkar, on Thursday ordered a police investigation into CPI-M leader and former Minister G Sudhakaran’s statement that service organizations supporting his party had tampered with the postal ballots of the Alappuzha Lok Sabha constituency in 1989.
The Nodal officers will further give it to the concerned Returning officers (ROs) or the Assistant Returning officers (AROs) under proper receipt with dates when these forms are handed over.
Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases between 19th April and 1st June, and the results will be declared on 4th June.
The overall number of postal ballots issued to the employees on election duty increased by nearly 11percent in 2022 as compared to 2017.
Chief Electoral Officer, (CEO) Maneesh Garg said here on Friday that 32,177 postal ballots have been received by the concerned returning officers so far, out of 59,728 postal ballots issued to the officials deployed for election duty.
During their visit to the district recently, the deputy commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Sudip Jain, and other ECI officials, held discussions with the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of four districts- -Malda, Murshidabad, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur.
The Ladakh constituency has around 4000 votes of armed forces, and BJP candidate Thuptsan Chhewang had won the seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections with a thin margin of 36 postal votes.
