The decision makes PMGKAY amongst the world’s biggest social welfare schemes aimed at ensuring food and nutrition security for 81.35 crore people, at an estimated cost of Rs 11.80 lakh crore, over a five-year period.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved a proposal to increase the dearness allowance (DA) of the central government employees and pensioners by 4 per cent.
Under the scheme, Centre is giving a five kg kit of food grains per person per month free of cost to all the beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) including those covered under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
She also claimed that only 60 per cent people in the state get central ration.
