The overall Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for persons aged 15 years and above increased to 55.8 per cent during October–December 2025, up from 55.1 per cent in the previous quarter.
India’s labour market indicators showed continued improvement in December 2025, with labour force participation and workforce levels rising to their highest levels of the year, while the overall unemployment rate remained broadly stable, according to the latest Monthly Bulletin of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
The data on Employment and Unemployment is collected through Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) which is conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) since 2017-18, said an official.
The unemployment rate for youth aged 15 to 29 years in India has been declining steadily over the last five years and has come down from 17.8 per cent in 2017-18 to 10 per cent in 2023-24, according to data tabled in the Parliament on Monday.
As per the PLFS 2018-19, the estimated worker population ratio and unemployment rate for persons of 15 years and above on usual status (principal status + subsidiary status) basis in the country was 47.3% and 5.8%.
