Female workforce participation peaks in December; unemployment steady

India’s labour market indicators showed continued improvement in December 2025, with labour force participation and workforce levels rising to their highest levels of the year, while the overall unemployment rate remained broadly stable, according to the latest Monthly Bulletin of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

Job seekers and jobs created

As per the PLFS 2018-19, the estimated worker population ratio and unemployment rate for persons of 15 years and above on usual status (principal status + subsidiary status) basis in the country was 47.3% and 5.8%.
