Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday urged chief secretary Manoj Pant to raise multiple cross-border concerns with the central government—ranging from the duty-free import of Nepal tea to flood threats originating from Nepal and Bhutan.
Stating that tea was being illegally imported from neighbouring Nepal, the DTA has written to different officials concerned, including the deputy chairman of the Tea Board of India, seeking their intervention in the matter.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry, North Bengal (FOCIN), has requested Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to allow small wholesale and retail shop owners to open their establishments.
