Remnants of severe cyclonic storm Montha that crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast late on Tuesday night, triggered a deluge in some districts of Telangana on Wednesday, throwing normal life out of gear and disrupting road and rail traffic.
Even though cyclone ‘Montha’ was mainly restricted to the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata and Howrah, could feel its rippling effect for the next few days.
The cyclone is expected to move northeastwards across the east-central Arabian Sea over the next 36 hours, though it currently poses no significant threat to the west coast.

The cyclone over the west-central Bay of Bengal has escalated into a severe cyclonic storm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The Met department said Cyclone Montha is expected to continue moving north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during the evening/night of today, i.e. Tuesday, 28th October, as a severe cyclonic storm.
