The Met department said Cyclone Montha is expected to continue moving north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during the evening/night of today, i.e. Tuesday, 28th October, as a severe cyclonic storm.
As per the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Severe Cyclone Montha, which has formed in the west-central Bay of Bengal, moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph over the past six hours.
As per the weather bulletin issued at 12 noon today, the severe cyclonic storm lay centered at 8.30 am over the same region, about 160 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 240 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 320 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 530 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).

When the cyclone makes its expected landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast tonight, it is likely to carry a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.
Montha is expected to weaken into a cyclonic storm early tomorrow and further weaken and become a depression by the evening. By early Thursday morning, the weather system will further weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area.
The IMD has issued rainfall warnings for the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Bihar, as well as the union territory of Puducherry.
