Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Monday inspected the Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) located in Okhla, South East Delhi, along with senior officials and conducted a comprehensive review of the measures being implemented to make the Yamuna pollution-free.
Officials in the Environment Department said the recommendations also included creating real-time dashboards to track pollution levels and compliance.
“The registration of the Delhi Traders Welfare Board marks a significant leap towards institutionalising welfare measures for trader communities in the national capital,” the minister said.
According to Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Sirsa, who conducted on-ground inspections, the government has scientifically identified 62 additional pollution hotspots, in addition to the previously known 13.
Sirsa said that during winter, when the city faces severe pollution, smoke generated from biomass burning such as firewood, raw coal, and other materials—worsens the smog situation.
During the meeting, Sirsa directed on-ground teams to ensure pothole repairs, paving of roads, water sprinkling to mitigate dust, proper disposal of industrial waste, prevention of open burning of waste and biomass.
