The case was lodged at Kotwali Khalilabad, Sant Kabir Nagar on 2 November 2025 by the District Minority Welfare Officer following ATS findings of alleged suspected activities across borders.
The arrested accused included the mastermind of the racket who is a madrasa teacher named Mahmood Hasan Ghazir. Over 204 religious books, Aadhaar cards, mobile and other items have been recovered from their possession.
The incident comes into light after a 22-year-old youth died in Jharkhand after being attacked by a mob for hours on suspicion of theft and forced to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'.
