During one such protest last Wednesday, when activist Sonam Wangchuk was on a hunger strike, violence broke out in the Ladakh capital during which four people were killed and scores others were injured.
The violence that erupted in Leh last week is more than a sudden outburst of anger in a remote Himalayan desert.
The Ladakh DGP said that the police have decided to relax the curfew in Leh in a staggered manner: from 1 pm to 3 pm in the Old City, and from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm in the new area.
In a massive development in the Ladakh violence case, renowned activist and leading voice Sonam Wangchuk has been arrested. The arrest came on Friday, a day after the Union government cancelled the FCRA license of an NGO associated with Wangchuk for alleged violations related to foreign funding.
