An awareness programme, aimed at promoting the safety of sanitation workers engaged in hazardous duties such as sewer and safety tank cleaning was recently held under the initiative of the Bidhannagar Municipality mayor, Krishna Chakraborty.
Referring to a news report, which talked about the BMC issuing instructions about limited use of water for the plants, the mayor said she had been flooded with calls on the issue.
With Mrs Chakraborty ‘s election as the mayor of the BMC was a foregone conclusion, the focus today was on Mr Dutta, the MLA-turned rebel, who bowed out as the mayor of the Bidhannagar civic body following distrust expressed against him by 35 councillors of the party who unanimously wanted the Trinamul Congress leadership sack him from his post.
It is the right of the elected councillors to elect and remove a mayor, advocate general Kisor Datta submitted. A process of removal has been initiated against the mayor, it was submitted.
