KIFF: Shatrughan Sinha, Arati Mukherjee conferred BangaBibhushan

The 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) was inaugurated at Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium by veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and host of other stars, including former cricketer Sourav Ganguly, singer Arati Mukherjee, filmmakers Goutam Ghose, Mumbai-based Ramesh Sippy and Sujoy Ghosh.

KIFF this year to be held from 6-13 Nov

In what comes as good news for the cinema lovers of the city, the much awaited mega annual event, 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is to be held from 6 to 13 November.

Toned-down 27th KIFF to go ahead from 7 Jan

According to official sources, the presence of stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, who are regular faces at the inaugural ceremony, is not yet confirmed. Like the previous edition, the inaugural ceremony of the 27 KIFF is to be held virtually on 7 January at 4 p.m from Nabanna by chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Return of right-wing ideology regressive, stupid: Volker Schlöndorff

The filmmaker, who has been vocal about the adverse effects of right-wing ideology on culture, said, “The right wing people in their ideology are against culture and it is a fact everywhere in the world, be it Adolf Hitler or Donald Trump. This is because they do not like the critical spirit that is inborn in culture. Culture always is questioning about right and wrong ways of living which is disliked by such people.”
