A 75-year-old resident of Mathabhanga II block in Cooch Behar, Nishikanta Das, has sought the intervention of chief minister Mamata Banerjee after receiving a notice from the Foreigners Tribunal in Kamrup, Assam, in connection with the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
At least two persons were killed while 22 policemen sustained injuries following an eviction drive in Kosutoli locality in the Sonapur area of the Kamrup district in Assam on Thursday.
Alok Ranjan Deb, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Kamrup district said that a herd of wild elephants was roaming in the area and a local man who was reportedly in a drunken state
Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Kailash Kartik along with police rushed to the facility in Changsari and asked the patients to clear the highway and return to the centre so that the matter can be resolved through discussions, they said.
The Kamrup Metro district administration confirmed the incident but could not say if anyone had died. A search operation was on.
