International Literacy Day

Illiterate India

Neo-literate individuals require practice or even continuous learning and the big gap means that many would have returned to illiteracy adding to India's more than 16 crore estimated illiterates as of now. With the Saakshar Bharat Mission in limbo and no new scheme in active operation, it may be assumed that India is now faced with a tougher challenge to achieve 100 per cent literacy by 2030.

Ministry of Education celebrates 54th International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day Celebration 2020 included a talk on ‘Literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond’ by Prof. JP Dubey, Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension, University of Delhi to determine the future course of action which needs to be taken to eradicate the scourge of illiteracy in the country.
