Reportedly, at least 35 people have died due to the consumption of contaminated drinking water of Narmada river supplied by the Indore Municipal Corporation through taps in the households of Bhagirathpura.
Opposition MLAs also staged a protest outside the House, displaying empty steel plates as a symbol of the state government’s directionless budget, its empty coffers, and the rising debt on the people of the state.
However, the official death toll, however, remained at 16, leading to a dispute over the actual number of deaths due to contaminated water supplied by the Indore Municipal Corporation through household taps in the locality,
However, local residents claim that at least 26 people have died so far due to the consumption of the contaminated water.
Amid chaos over water contamination in Indore, District Collector Shivam Verma said that nearly 5,000 houses have been surveyed and chlorine dosing has been completed in all borewells following the water contamination crisis in the Bhagirathpura area.
