The seat of the Prime Minister that Imran Khan sits on has a lead of only 5 votes/seats in the National Assembly, which was gained by the support of the same independent and ally parties.

Difficult days ahead for Imran Khan

Instability within the country has already hit Pakistan’s financial markets. Hoping to gain popularity and stave off the challenge, Imran announced a reduction in oil prices, alongside a slew of other schemes which his government can ill afford and which are against existing agreements with the IMF. This is adding to economic uncertainty as further financial assistance from IMF may be blocked leading to Pakistan defaulting on payments.

Pakistan’s neutrality

“We are friends with Russia and we are also friends with America. We are friends with China and with Europe. We are not in any camp." On March 2, Pakistan along with 34 other countries had abstained from voting on the United Nations’ resolution that condemned the “Russian aggression against Ukraine”.
