An annual financial assistance of Rs 3.8 crore for the project will be provided to the department by the Central government's Education Department under the Rashtriya Uchathar Shiksha Abhiyan, a statement from the office of higher education minister, K. Ponmudi said on Friday.
In a late Thursday statement, it said: 'IIT-Bombay wishes to clarify that (it) is not against any peaceful expression of opinion in an individual capacity. The Institute is strictly apolitical in its views and does not endorse any political ideology.'
Also 'strictly prohibited' are speeches/plays/music or any other activities that disturb the peace of hostel environment, even if the faculty is part of the gathering, but matters approved by the DoSA will be permitted.
GATE is administered jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (namely, IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee).
