Being constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 145 crore, the Himachal Niketan is designed as a state-of-the-art facility to cater to the needs of people from Himachal Pradesh visiting the national capital.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made this announcement in the State Legislative Assembly, which was held at Dharamshala on Thursday.
He informed that an important decision regarding this was taken in the recent Cabinet meeting.
He said the rising revenue from GST, Excise, Value Added Tax (VAT), Passengers and Goods Tax (PGT), and other taxes on goods reflects improved efficiency and better compliance following reforms introduced by the state government since 2022-23.
"Tourist inflow in the border regions has increased sharply—from around 21,000 visitors in 2024 to over 70,000 in 2025, marking a three-and-a-half-fold rise," said Sukhu. He informed this during a meeting held with senior officers of the Indian Army’s Central Command on Tuesday.
He said that despite limited resources, the government was determined to rebuild the state’s economy and support disaster-affected families.
The financial assistance aims to help families whose houses were either completely or partially damaged during the recent natural calamities.
Sukhu directed the concerned departments to complete all preparations in a timely manner to make this event a success.
Chairing a review meeting of HPPCL in Shimla, the Chief Minister asked the Corporation to adopt a mission-mode approach for the timely completion of projects and to explore new opportunities in renewable energy generation.
