While speaking at the inaugural session of first edition of Urja Varta, he underscored the importance of the exploration and production sector in achieving energy self-sufficiency and sustaining economic growth.
"Bharat is the only country, where prices of petrol and diesel over a representative period have come down in the case of petrol by about 2 per cent or so and diesel by a little per cent instead of going up,” the Union Minister said.
He asserted that India is perhaps the only country in the world where fuel prices have come down over a two- and half-year reference period.
The minister further said that he is not in favour of divestment of government stake in state-run oil companies. "Why would we divest ourselves of highly successful Maharatnas like BPCL," he said.
The Minister was speaking at PM SVANidhi Mega Camp here. As part of this event, loans were distributed to 10,000 street vendors.
The audience at the event included those who took part in the iconic and historic vintage and classic car rally organised by The Statesman Group in New Delhi.
The major attractions of the event were an assembly of vintage and classic cars, followed by a drive through the city where cars were assessed for originality and performance on the road section.
Speaking about the upcoming India Energy Week (IEW) to the media in New Delhi, the minister said that IEW represents a golden opportunity to showcase developments on the energy front and provide the platform for further development and growth in the energy sector.
