In a series of posts shared on X, he said, "Now GST will become even more simple. There are now only two rates of GST 5 percent and 18 percent. From 22nd September .... From the first day of Navratri new rates of GST will come into force. There are reforms even in GST in India's growth. GST 2.0... a double dose of support and growth for the nation."
The GST Council on Wednesday approved a major overhaul of the Goods and Services Tax regime, reducing slabs to 5 per cent and 18 per cent, effective from September 22.
This was the 56th GST Council meeting led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi.
The key proposal that the council will contemplate includes the removal of 28 per cent and 12 per cent slabs.
Atishi said that due to the opposition by Delhi and Punjab governments in the 54th GST Council meeting regarding the tax on research grants, the same will now be exempted from the GST.
Another key announcement that the minister made is that now hostels which are for students but are not in educational institutions are also getting exempted.
This will be held after eight-and-a-half months since its last meeting, the Finance Ministry said on Thursday.
