For the month of October, India's gems and jewellery exports grew by 9.18 per cent to USD 2,998.04 million (Rs 25,194.41 crore) due to revival in demand for cut and polished diamond, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) said.
Describing the Gems & jewellery sector as a strong pillar of the Indian economy, he said, “Our Gold and Diamond trade contributes about 7 per cent to our GDP and employs over 50 Lakh people. The exports already stand at $ 32 billion this year until January.”
The defaulters also include players from the infrastructure and other sectors, according to public notices issued by the Stressed Assets Management Branch 1 (SAM-1), Cuffe Parade.
The country's gems and jewellery exports contracted by 8 per cent to about USD 32.72 billion in 2017-18 owing to demand slowdown in major markets, including the US.
