Johnson won a gold medal in the 1500m and a silver in the 800m at the 2018 Asian Games. He also earned a silver in the 1500m at the 2022 Asian Games, establishing himself as one of India’s most accomplished middle-distance runners.
The cycling rally was flagged off early in the morning by Assam Sports Minister Shrimati Nandita Garlosa, with around 400 participants covering a six-kilometre route along NH-27 and around the Sarusajai Stadium, now renamed the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex.
The anniversary celebrations in Puducherry transformed the Rock Beach into a vibrant fitness festival, with more than 1,500 cyclists, including school students, NaMo Cycling Club members and university youth, participating in the ride.
The initiative coincided with India winning the right to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, and included cycling and fitness activities at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and in nearby areas.
Intensifying the fight against obesity, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will take part in the nationwide movement ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ here on Sunday.
