Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has dismissed the reported demand for a separate “Miyaland”, following the state’s latest eviction drive in Uriamghat that reclaimed more than 10,000 bighas of land.
The Paikan Reserve Forest, long encroached upon by settlers, has been at the center of land conflict, with eviction attempts repeatedly facing resistance from local residents.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again asserted his government’s commitment to reclaiming illegally occupied lands across the state, pledging an intensified eviction campaign in the coming weeks.
“The Congress and extremist elements provoked the encroachers, resulting in violent confrontations with the police. The slogans used were disturbingly similar to those heard in Bangladesh,” Sarma said in a press briefing.
