The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the immediate withdrawal of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) following the completion of the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Puducherry, after the formal declaration of results by Returning Officers in the respective states.

The Election Commission on Friday said the number of “logical discrepancies” detected in the electoral rolls of West Bengal during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has come down significantly, from 1.36 crore to 94.49 lakh, a reduction of 41.51 lakh cases.
"Citizens can now give their suggestions till the 10th of January, 2026," the ECI said in a statement on Saturday.
