With an increasing demand by passengers during the upcoming festive season, the Eastern and South Eastern Railways have decided to run Puja Special trains to cater to the huge rush.
Eastern Railways has installed 34 automatic ticket vending machines (ATVM) and 48 unreserved ticketing system counters for quick issuance of tickets at Old and New Complex of Howrah Station.
Work on fencing besides the railway track on the chord line of Asansol division of Eastern Railways is going on at present in full swing to prevent accidental deaths of stray cattle.

With a seating capacity of 1,100, the stadium can host sporting events like basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, handball, badminton, table tennis, weight lifting, chess and bridge. The complex also houses the cricket ground where Sourav Ganguly practised and a swimming pool that matches Olympic standards.
Both Howrah and Sealdah stations witnessed usual hullabaloo during the peak hours with long qeueus outside ticket counter and scores of busy commuters.
An E.R Press communique stated that to make way for this purpose, the following train cancellations have been made as per the schedule- 37855 Howrah-Barddhaman local (via main line), 36849 Howrah-Barddhaman local (via chord line) and 36853 Howrah-Barddhaman local (via chord line) are to remain cancelled from Howrah on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 14 to 27 October.
The old station building, with its thick brick mortar walls, high roof and iron structures constructed during 1860, was in a dilapidated condition.
Talking to The Statesman, Mr. Prashant Kumar Mishra, chief workshop engineer of Eastern Railways, who is also holding the additional charge of divisional railway manager (DRM) of Malda Division informed that old embankments are being strengthened, slope, erosion, subsidence of embarkments are being attended to.
