DVC restricts vehicles at Maithon Dam
The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has barred the entry of vehicles from 25 December to 1 January in order to restrict the crowd in the tourist spot of Maithon Dam, situated at the Bengal Jharkhand border.

"Before the release of water, flood warning messages are communicated well in advance to Chief Engineers of Government of West Bengal, District Magistrates of Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhman, Purulia, Bankura, and Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer, Durgapur, government of West Bengal".

Miss Banerjee alleged that lack of dredging in dams and barrages by Jharkhand has led to excessive discharge of water causing the flood situation in Bengal and urged the Jharkhand government to carry out dredging in its reservoirs.
“The CM cannot escape from her responsibilities by pushing the ball into DVC’s court. The state government was informed on 27 July that the DVC will release water due to heavy rainfall in the adjoining states. What did the DMs, BDO and irrigation department do to prepare for it? Was there any public announcement to warn the people and take necessary measures?”
The commissioner of Burdwan division today held a meeting at the Burdwan Circuit House to chalk out modalities of water release for Boro and Ravi cultivation.
