In response to the worsening pollution, the civic authority has issued stop memos to construction and dust-generating activities while small industries, like bakeries and marble-cutting units have been directed to adopt cleaner technologies, officials said.
“In the Shahdara South Zone, a total of 78 special teams have been constituted to implement the Winter Action Plan to control pollution,” said Badal Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Shahdara South Zone, MCD.
The operation includes removal of debris from road surfaces, filling potholes on priority, repairing and upgrading road signage, and carrying out other essential maintenance tasks, aimed at curbing the dust.
The city Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Saturday that strict action will be taken against any construction site that fails to follow dust control measures, including fines, and in cases of severe violations, the site may be shut down.
