Shah has asked police across the country to enhance the 1930 helpline and its effectiveness by deploying more manpower, call handlers so that whenever a person tries to report a cyber fraud, there is a quick response and the complaint is addressed before the person loses all the money.
In a major breakthrough against the rising menace of “digital arrest” cases, the Bidhannagar Commissionerate has arrested two persons from Karnataka for allegedly extorting nearly Rs 1.47 crore from a Rajarhat resident after posing as police officials and threatening him with false criminal charges.
Earlier investigations led the agency to dismantle illegal call centres operating in Pune, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
The initiative emphasized educating citizens about the importance of protecting themselves against the possible cyber threats, and to create a safer and more secure online environment through various activities.
The accused, identified as Prabhat, Rajesh, and Arjun, were arrested following a complaint from a person who reported a loss of Rs 55 lakh in digital fraud.
