Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Vaishnaw said, “Whether it is Netflix, YouTube, Meta, or X, all must operate within the constitution of India."
The government has set a three-hour deadline for social media platforms to take down AI-generated or deepfake content once it is flagged by the government or ordered by a court.
Justice Surya Kant said this, during his address at the Second Law and Constitution Dialogue at the NDMC Convention Centre in Delhi.
The advisory also asked them to ensure that such cases are expeditiously acted upon well within the timeframes stipulated under the IT Rules 2021.
Deepfakes have gained notoriety over the last few years with a number of high-profile incidents, such as actress Emma Watsons likeness being used in a series of suggestive adverts that appeared on Facebook and Instagram.
"The most difficult thing is making it (deepfake) look alive. You can see it in the eyes when it's not right," Ume noted.
