This will be the first time since 1974 that the discipline of shooting will not be part of the Commonwealth Games and second time since shooting was introduced in the event in 1966.

The President’s statement comes after Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had said that it could boycott from the Commonwealth Games.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said in June that the government won't be able to interfere in the matter but it would explore diplomatic channels to get shooting included.
"They (Commonwealth Federation) are catering to their public, as in what their public would like to go and see on the venue or on television. Shooting still doesn't attract much spectators, so that is why they have included cricket," said Heena.
