I am genuinely grateful, as always, for the letters and comments, known in common parlance as “feedback”, from our dear readers.  They are precious. Their thoughts are insightful and incisive. Sometimes they are supportive of ideas expressed. Sometimes extremely critical.

Despite the rise of elective democracy, the 21st century is turning out to be a century of citizens‘ engagement. The rights to be heard, to be seen, to be recognized and to be respected are at the core of citizens‘ movements across the world. The 21st century is witnessing fundamental global economic, political, social and cultural transformations challenging traditional notions of citizenship

Civil society’s role

We pay lip service to the accountability principle. It is not translated into law. For any allegation of abuse of power by the judges, an accountability law is a solution to some extent. Civil society activists need to be up in arms for a sound legislation on accountability
