There was some relief for residents in flood-affected areas of Rajasthan as the water level in the swollen Chambal River began to recede on Friday, particularly in the worst-hit districts of Dholpur, Karauli, and Sawai Madhopur.
The release of 5 lakh cusecs of water from the Navnera Barrage into the Chambal River has caused the river to swell along most of its course through Rajasthan.
According to police sources, six youths were seen stranded at an outcrop in the river bed, the water level in which was rising fast and continuously.
At least two people drowned and five others were reported missing while crossing the Chambal river in the Mandrayal area.
Nine others either managed to swim to safety or were rescued by teams of the police and the district administration with the help of villagers.
