The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has dispatched a 23-member Indian boxing contingent to Manama, Bahrain, for the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025, scheduled from October 23 to 30. The team will represent India across 14 weight categories, seven each for boys and girls
Confirming the result, Fairuz Mohammed said, “Today, the Boxing Federation of India has successfully concluded the elections in a fair and transparent manner. With that, the BFI elected the new team under the leadership of Ajay Singh.”
Each gold medallist will receive ₹2 lakh, silver medallists ₹1 lakh, and bronze winners ₹50,000, as India builds momentum toward the World Boxing Cup Finals to be held here later this year.
In a move to strengthen centralised training and maintain consistency across the national boxing programme, the interim committee overseeing the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and the functioning of the sport in the country has reinforced its long-standing policy disallowing personal coaches and support staff at official national camps.
“Assam is discouraging players from participating in the women's Nationals. Lovlina has recorded a video of support. But officers have received a call that she has been asked by Hemanta Kalita not to participate. Because she owes a lot to Assam boxing, she is reconsidering her participation,” Singh said in an “emergency press conference” here.
The two recommendations for Dronacharya Award were coaches Chhote Lal Yadav and Mohammad Ali Qamar.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and All India Football Federation (AIFF) had instructed their employees to work from home on Monday.
Panghal became the first Indian boxer to claim a silver medal at the just-concluded World Championships in Ekaterinburg, Russia. He is also an Asian Games and Asian Championships gold-medallist.
33 teams and 326 boxers have participated in this seven-day tournament that will pick out the best of India's rising boys pugilists with the grand finale taking place on 8 July.
