The Supreme Court today expressed concern over the instances of BLOs being threatened in West Bengal during the SIR drive. It has sought response from the Election Commission over the lack of security for BLOs and reports of non-cooperation by the state governments.
Yesterday, the digitization of UP stood at 4,10,82,866, which was 26.60% of the total submitted enumeration forms of voters in the state. But within a day, over 1.10 crore voter forms were digitized.
Kelkar said around 1,19,315 voters have been found untraceable during Kerala’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision(SIR) and that election officials are embarking on an effort to track down voters found untraceable during the enumeration phase.
Till yesterday evening, 22.8 lakh enumeration forms of the total 23.27 lakh have been distributed in West Burdwan district under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls process by the Election Commission of India.
At the same time, the sources added, the commission had also directed the DEOs to thoroughly investigate cases of BLOs distributing enumeration forms in particular places, skipping door-to-door visits
The first phase of the three-stage SIR in West Bengal will start from November 4.
At least seven Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were suspended in Bihar by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday, for alleged dereliction of duty and refusal to follow the stipulated guidelines.
