Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj Kumar has raised concerns over the transparency of the Boxing Federation of India’s (BFI) new athlete assessment system for selecting boxers for upcoming international events, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and ACG Sports Pvt Ltd on Wednesday announced the launch of India’s first year-round residential Basketball High Performance Centre (HPC) in Bengaluru, marking a major step towards the debut of the India Basketball League (IBL) in 2026.
The competition will see male and female contenders across ten weight categories vie for top honours in Olympic-style boxing.
Selections were based on performances at the 6th U-17 Junior Boys & Girls National Boxing Championship 2025, where gold medallists earned direct entry into the squad, while silver medallists were named as reserves in their respective categories.
The move is part of BFI’s continued efforts to give Indian boxers international exposure and the best possible preparation by ensuring they acclimatise to conditions well before the tournament.
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Thursday concluded its keenly contested elections with Ajay Singh emerging victorious in the Presidential race.
Confirming the result, Fairuz Mohammed said, “Today, the Boxing Federation of India has successfully concluded the elections in a fair and transparent manner. With that, the BFI elected the new team under the leadership of Ajay Singh.”
