In a landmark initiative to promote astro-tourism and empower local communities in the high-altitude cold desert of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday formally launched a stargazing facility in Kaza.
The Uttarakhand government claimed that this would be the first initiative of its kind in the country.
The star-view sanctuary having the highest optical telescope in the world at an elevation of 14,764 ft is situated in south-eastern Ladakh near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. UT’s Principal Secretary Pawan Kotwal held a high-level meeting to finalise steps to be taken for promoting Hanle as an Astro-tourism spot.
In this connection, Sitesh Srivastava, Principal AIHM, Chandigarh, visited Ladakh and interacted with the concerned Officers.
