Early this morning, an NIA team along with the Mumbai Police, carried out searches at his Andheri home, and later detained Sharma for questioning after which he was placed under arrest this afternoon.
Sharma, a controversial former Senior Police Inspector, and later a Shiv Sena activist had been earlier interrogated by the NIA a couple of times last April.
Vaze, currently in NIA custody till Thursday, was seen entering the hotel where he spent at least five days in mid-February using some fake identity papers and the woman close behind him was noticed, baffling the investigators, official sources said.
The official said that they are collecting all the documents related to Hiren's death from the Mumbai Police and ATS.
Arrested Assistant Police Inspector (API) Sachin Vaze who is currently in NIA custody till March 25 was ferried to the spot and tried to play out the crime scene, as it could have happened.
