President Droupadi Murmu was accorded a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at the Presidential Palace in Luanda, Angola, on Sunday, marking the beginning of her historic state visit to the country, the foreign ministry said.
In a post on X, Rashtrapati Bhavan said, "President Droupadi Murmu departs for her State visit to Angola and Botswana. This will be the first-ever State visit by an Indian Head of State to these nations."
Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary (ER), in the ministry, told reporters that the President's visit to the two African nations, the first by an Indian Head of State, is part of efforts to increase India's engagement with countries in Africa.
