Usually, when the International break ensues in the midst of a busy season, footballers look to put their club issues behind them as they look to make the most of the limited time they get with the national side, but Wissam Ben Yedder wasn’t in a mood to let Paul Pogba forget Sevilla’s thrilling win over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League as he trolled with his France teammate with a sly tweet as they met up in Clairefontaine.

Ben Yedder famously came off the bench to inspire a 2-1 win for Sevilla at Old Trafford last week to send big-spenders Manchester United out of the continental competition.

The 27-year-old’s second-half brace set off alarm bells in Manchester, with many fans calling for Jose Mourinho to be sacked in the wake of the ignominious defeat.

Pogba was also on the bench for the European fixture and while he did come on in the second-half, he couldn’t quite affect the tie as his compatriot did.

Ben Yedder’s goalscoring exploits for Sevilla in the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League (17 goals in all competitions) have forced Didier Deschamps to issue a call-up for the senior team and the 5’7 forward could make his Les Blues debut when France take on Colombia later this week.

After their March 23 tie with the South Americans, France face-off against 2018 FIFA World Cup hosts Russia on March 27.

With competition for spots in Les Blues’ squad immense, Ben Yedder will hope to get substantial playing time as he stakes a claim to be on the plane to Russia with less than three months to go before the quadrennial extravaganza kicks off.
