Rookie Indian batsman Mayank Agarwal, who made his debut in the longest format of the game against Australia on Wednesday, opened up about his first day in Test cricket to KL Rahul in an interview.

On Wednesday evening, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of KL Rahul interviewing Mayank Agarwal and captioned it, ‘Open’ing up with @klrahul11 & @mayankcricket

In the video, Agarwal told KL Rahul that a lot of emotions were running through him before the start of the third Test between India and Australia at Melbourne. Mayank scored 76 runs in the first innings of his debut Test and in the process became the first Indian opener to achieve this feat in Australia.

“When I entered the ground today for the pre-match routine, it seemed like a big, big ground, you know a few people there, a lot of emotions were going through, something I’ve never felt before. It was a fun day, having you here was nice, a guy who also made his debut at MCG,” Agarwal said.

Talking about Mayank’s work ethics, KL Rahul said that he has been an inspiration for him since they started playing domestic cricket together.

“I’ve seen in the dressing room growing up and he is one of my inspirations in the dressing room. When we played together, I used to see him hitting the gym, hitting the nets,” KL Rahul said.
