Virat Kohli to regain fitness before England tour?

Days after he suffered a neck injury while fielding during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was seen doing light training at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Wednesday.

Earlier, Virat Kohli was ruled out from his County stint where he was set to play for Surrey in June as preparation for India’s upcoming tour of England.

Virat was seen hitting the nets early Wednesday afternoon with Indian cricket team’s assistant coach Sanjay Bangar. Kohli will also miss Afghanistan’s historic Test debut as he will undergo a fitness test in Bangalore on June 15 — a day after the one-off Test. The India vs Afghanistan Test match will be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium between 14 and 18 June.

However, according to a report in Times of India, Virat will be available for Two T20I matches against Ireland and for England tour.

The Men-in-Blue will play two T20 Internationals against Ireland in Dublin on June 27 and 29 and will leave for England after that.

In England, Team India will play a three-match T20 series, a three-match One-Day International series and eventually the five-Test series.

“He’s begun with a relatively lighter stint at the indoor nets. In a couple of days, he’ll be back on the field and by the end of the first two weeks (of June) – around the15th – he’ll be in Bangalore for the fitness test and to begin training,” a source told TOI.

“Surrey was an option; the England tour is a responsibility. He’s taken a break whenever there was a need for it. That’s why he sat out of the last T20 in South Africa and did not play in the Nidahas Trophy. It shows that priorities are well in place. It’s unfortunate that Virat hasn’t been able to leave for Surrey but recovering fully in time is the more important thing,” the source further said.
