Karwa Chauth, a festival of ritualistic fasting followed by married Hindu women, helps a couple celebrate the eternal bond between them. The wives fast without eating anything and drinking even a drop of water throughout the day for the long and healthy life of their husbands. The fast is broken only after seeing the moon at night.

However, to break the trend, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli kept fast with wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma to celebrate Karva Chauth.

Taking to Twitter, Kohli on Thursday shared an image of the two with a caption: “The ones who fast together laugh together.”

Meanwhile, other Indian cricketers also took to social media to post pictures with their better halves on the occasion of Karva Chauth.

India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan wished Karva Chauth to wife Aesha. “Happy KarwaChauth my love, you are far but still always close to me. Cannot wait to see you soon. love u lots Aesha Dhawan. Wishing all other married couples as well. May God bless you all with a peaceful long life together,” Dhawan tweeted.

Former India batsman and East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir found a unique way of wishing Karva Chauth to wife Natasha. Along with a picture of himself and his wife, Gambhir tweeted in Hindi: “Are chand to kabka nikla hua tha.”

Former India batsman Virender Sehwag wrote on the microblogging website: “Bahut Ghazab, Prem aur Shraddha #KarwaChauth #Chand.”

With the three-match Test series already in the kitty with 2-0, the Virat Kohli-led side will aim to clean sweep South Africa in the final match beginning Saturday at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.
