India’s coaching setup could be set for a change after the ongoing England tour, with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate reportedly planning to step away from his role once the three-match ODI series concludes.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the former Netherlands all-rounder has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his intention to leave. However, the final decision is expected to rest with head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was instrumental in bringing ten Doeschate into the Indian setup.

If approved, the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s on July 19 will mark ten Doeschate’s final assignment with Team India.
Why does Ryan ten Doeschate want to leave?
The report states that the decision has nothing to do with India’s recent on-field performances in England or Ireland. Instead, it is understood to be driven by personal commitments.
With his family based in London and his wife working, ten Doeschate reportedly wants to spend more time with their three young sons. The demanding travel schedule that comes with India’s coaching role is believed to have prompted him to seek an opportunity that offers a better work-life balance.
Gambhir’s backing could be key
Ten Doeschate joined India’s support staff after Gambhir took over as head coach, with the former India opener strongly backing his appointment.
The report adds that while ten Doeschate has primarily worked as an assistant coach, his responsibilities have not always been clearly defined. Although fielding is considered one of his strengths, that department is already overseen by India’s fielding coach, T. Dilip, limiting his role in that area.
Despite this, ten Doeschate is understood to share a strong professional and personal rapport with Gambhir, making the head coach’s approval crucial to any final decision.
Ten Doeschate’s initial BCCI contract, signed when he joined the coaching setup two years ago, is understood to have recently expired, with its term ending around July 12-14.
Meanwhile, despite India’s fielding struggles during the England series, T. Dilip is expected to continue as fielding coach as the team looks to address its catching concerns ahead of future assignments.
