India survived a few scares early in match, though the scoreline remained 0-0 in the first half. Indian defenders, led by goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, stood tall in front of the goalpost to stop Myanmar.

The second-half saw both the sides vying for a breakthrough. However, the breakthrough was well-earned by Chhetri for the blues in the 90th minute.

India defeated Myanmar on their home turf after a leap of 64 years.

India are placed in Group A with Macau, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar and fighting to a place in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup finals.

With the hard-fought victory today, India pocketed three points to top Group A.

In the next match, they are scheduled to face Kyrgyzstan at home on June 13, 2017.
