Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja would have a great chance to go past India’s World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev’s record by becoming the leading wicket-taker for India against the West Indies when the two sides will face each other for five-match One Day International (ODIs) series starting on Sunday.

Jadeja, who has taken 29 wickets in 19 matches against the Windies, is just 15 wickets away from taking over Kapil Dev’s record. Kapil Dev, who had guided India to World Cup glory in 1983, has taken 43 wickets in 42 matches against the Caribbean’s with an economy of 3.62. Kapil Dev also has a four-wicket haul to his credit.

Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble holds the second spot in the list with 41 wickets followed by veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh who has 33 wickets to his credit.

Chennai Super Kings’ all-rounder Jadeja was recalled to the Indian squad after 15 months for the recently concluded Asia Cup 2018 where he impressed everyone with his performance. Jadeja also earned accolades for his performance against the West Indies team in the 2-0 whitewash at home during the two-match Test series.

Meanwhile, young Indian pacer Shardul Thakur has been ruled out from the Indian squad for the first two ODIs against the West Indies due to an injury. Star Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has been called in place of Shardul Thakur.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Umesh Yadav as Shardul Thakur’s replacement in India’s squad for the first two ODIs against Windies. Mr Thakur suffered a right adductor tendon injury and has been ruled out of the ODI series,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Here is the revised Indian squad for the first two ODIs against the West Indies:

Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, and Umesh Yadav.
