Lionel Messi 70-foot statue in Kolkata to be removed over safety concerns
Kolkata authorities will dismantle a 70-foot statue of Lionel Messi after safety concerns were raised over its structural stability, as per ESPN reports.
The prestigious recognition was awarded to Minerva Academy’s Under-15 team, which created history in August 2025 by delivering a sensational performance in Europe.

Indian football added another golden chapter to its history as global football icon Lionel Messi personally honoured Minerva Academy Football Club (MAFC) at the grand finale of the G.O.A.T. India Tour 2025, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here.
The prestigious recognition was awarded to Minerva Academy’s Under-15 team, which created history in August 2025 by delivering a sensational performance in Europe. The young champions clinched the Gothia Cup (Sweden), Dana Cup (Denmark) and Norway Cup, completing a historic European treble. With this achievement, Minerva Academy became the first and only Indian team to accomplish such a feat at the youth level.

Over the past decade, Minerva Academy has played a transformative role in reshaping India’s grassroots football structure. From winning the I-League to establishing dominance in national youth competitions, the academy has consistently brought international recognition to Indian football. The Under-15 team’s European triumph is widely regarded as a landmark moment for the sport in the country.
