Liverpool custodian Loris Karius’ flying save to deny Everton winger Yannick Bolasie from opening the scoring was the talk of the town after the 235th Merseyside Derby ended in a 0-0 draw but the German custodian sought to play down the incredible save in the aftermath of the tie at Goodison Park.

“I don’t know (if it was my best). In the game, you just try and help the team,” Karius told Sky Sports in his post-match interview.

“I don’t know how good it was or not, it goes too quick. I was just happy to get a fingertip on it, the 23-year-old stated when pressed.

The home crowd thought Bolasie had scored in the 22nd minute when he curled one in from the edge of the box but despite being unsighted till the very last second, Karius managed to tip it around the post.

After a difficult start to life at Liverpool, Karius has managed to come into his own in the past couple of months and has successfully dislodged Simon Mignolet from the starting spot between the sticks.

And despite paying a starring role in yet another clean sheet for Liverpoool, Karius thought the post-match talk should rather have been about the fact that Nathaniel Clyne played his first match of the season and Ragnar Klava gave a good account of himself at left-back.

“It’s good to get a save like this but the most important thing for us (was) to get a clean sheet because the back four was new with Clyney coming back in after a long time and Klavan is not (usually) a left-back.

“So that’s really pleasing for us,” Karius added.

When asked about his verdict on the result, the Reds shot-stopper expressed,”I thought we did really well first, the start of the second half as well.”

“We wanted three points but at the end I think it’s a fair result if you look at the whole game.”
