Sealing their first win of the season, Gujarat Titans edged out Delhi Capitals by one run in a thrilling contest at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, captain Shubman Gill was fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match.
“Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 14 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi,” said a statement from the tournament on Thursday.

“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh,” the statement added.
Apart from Gill, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has also faced penalties for slow over-rate this season. He was fined ₹12 lakh for the first offence against Gujarat Titans and ₹24 lakh for a second offence during the match against Chennai Super Kings.
The penalty came hours after the Gujarat Titans opened their account in IPL 2026 with a dramatic last-ball victory. Chasing 211, Delhi Capitals needed two runs off the final two deliveries, but a run-out of Kuldeep Yadav on the last ball sealed the contest in GT’s favour.
Rashid Khan was outstanding with the ball, taking 3/17, while Prasidh Krishna kept his composure in the final over, defending 13 runs and claiming two wickets.
Earlier, GT’s total of 210/4 was built on three half-centuries. Jos Buttler struck a blistering 52 off 27 balls, while Gill top-scored with 70 off 45 in his return after a neck spasm.
He was well supported by Washington Sundar, who registered his maiden IPL fifty with a 32-ball 55. The duo also shared a crucial 104-run partnership that set the stage for the big total.
Gujarat Titans will next face the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Sunday.
